The Thomas H. Lutsey-Waseda Farms Scholarship provides financial assistance to graduating seniors pursuing degrees that enhance rural communities. The application is open between January 1-April 1. Select on a section below for more information.
Eligibility
To apply for the Thomas H. Lutsey-Waseda Farms Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Current graduating senior attending a high school within 150 miles of Green Bay
- Attending an accredited 4-year college/university
- Students can apply if they plan on attending a 2-year technical school first to then transfer to a 4-year program as a full-time student
- Pursuing a career with an agriculture focus that will enhance rural communities
- Examples include dairy science, animal science, agriculture engineering, veterinary medicine, agriculture economics, biotechnology, environmental science, agri-business
- Minimum 3.0 high school GPA
- Minimum 19 ACT composite score
- Student with a rural or agriculture background
- Financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA
- Families with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $20,000 or less are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Should your EFC fall above $20,000, you may still apply for the scholarship. Please review the Financial Information Requirements for further details.
Application Requirements
Applications are available beginning January 1. To apply for the Thomas H. Lutsey-Waseda Farms Scholarship, you must submit the following requirements:
- Application Form
- Personal Statement
- Extracurricular Activities
- Including clubs/organizations, volunteerism, leadership positions, honors/awards received, etc. Please include dates for each.
- Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
- Official High School Transcripts, including ACT/SAT Scores
- Completion of the FAFSA and submission of the one-page SAR (Student Aid Report)
- Because of government delay in processing the FAFSA, we will not be requiring one for the current 2024 scholarship season.

How to Apply
Complete the application through an easy online application form. You should plan on completing the application form in one sitting. It will take approximately 15 minutes. The application will ask for basic information, such as contact and parent/guardian information, education, work experience, and the names and email addresses for a high school official (to obtain your academic records) and those submitting letters of recommendation on your behalf. After you complete the online application, please remember to submit all additional requirements as outlined above in the “Application Requirements” section.
Deadline
The scholarship application opens on January 1. All scholarship application materials must be completed and submitted by midnight on April 1. This includes the application and all supporting documents, including those required of recommenders and high school officials. All application requirements are to be submitted electronically, including academic records and letters of recommendation.
Late applications will not be accepted for any reason and no exceptions will be made.
Submission
The scholarship application opens on January 1. Begin by completing the online application. After successful submission of the online application, you will receive an email with links for completing additional forms and uploading the required documents. Each online form requires the entry of your email address. It is important that you use the same email address for all submissions related to this scholarship.

- Complete this application form first, you will then receive information sent to you via email with instructions on submitting the remaining requirements.
- Personal Statement
- Completion of an online form. You will be emailed a link to use to complete the form. You can prepare for the personal statement ahead of time by accessing the questions, available on the Resources page.
- Extracurricular Activities
- Upload a document of your extracurricular activities. You will be emailed a link to use to upload your extracurricular activities. For examples of extracurricular activity listings, visit the Resources page.
- Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
- When completing the online application, you will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of your recommenders. Each of your recommenders will receive an email with a unique link to use to complete and submit the recommendation.
- Official High School Transcripts, including ACT/SAT Scores
- When completing the online application, you will be asked to provide the name and email address of a school official. The school official will receive an email with a unique link to use to complete and submit these requirements.
- Completion of the FAFSA and submission of the one-page SAR (Student Aid Report)
- You will be emailed a link in which to upload your SAR. The document must be in a PDF format. Only submit the one-page SAR. Do not submit your entire FAFSA.
- Because of government delay in processing the FAFSA, we will not be requiring one for the current 2024 scholarship season.

Renewal
Current scholarship recipients must renew the Thomas H. Lutsey-Waseda Farms scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for up to three subsequent years. Renewal forms are available online beginning May 1 through July 1. July 1 is a hard cutoff with no exceptions. To renew your scholarship, you must submit the following:
- Scholarship Renewal Form.
- Most recent official transcript.
- You will be required to upload your current Spring semester transcript when completing the renewal form found on our website. Please have this document available when you begin the renewal process.
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Maintain your qualified major or switch to another qualified major.
